Lash Guide

What are lash extensions?

Lash extensions are a semi-permanent, non-invasive cosmetic application of individual extensions placed on each individual eyelash.

How long do lash extensions last?

Lash extensions can last up to 4 weeks if properly cared for. The average person has around 90-150 lashes on each eye. During the lashing process about 95% of the natural lashes will be covered with soft, comfortable synthetic mink extensions. We naturally shed 2-5 lashes daily. In one week you will have shed 14-35 lashes, after two weeks you will have shed 28-70 lashes, and at three weeks you will have lost around 42-105 total lashes.

Fills are recommended every 2-3 weeks to maintain lash fullness. Following proper aftercare is crucial for lasting retention.

Preparing for Your Lash Appointment

  • Shower prior to arriving
Lashes must avoid water or steam for the first 24-48 hours after application.
  • Remove contact lenses
Your eyes will remain shut during your lash appointment. To avoid any eye irritation or discomfort, it is recommended that clients remove lenses or wear glasses to lash appointments.
  • Wear comfy clothes
Your initial appointment will take around 2-3 hours and your comfort is a priority. Blankets, pillows, and a soft bed are provided. Make the most of it and take a nap!
  • Avoid Caffeine
Drinking caffeine prior to your lash appointment can cause the eyelids to twitch, making it difficult to properly isolate and apply lashes.
  • Remove eye makeup
Mascara and eyeliner must be removed  before appointment. A quick cleanse of the eye is provided to remove any oils, but build-up on the lashes can be time-consuming to remove and will take away from your appointment time. An additional $20 charge will be applied onto the service if a deep cleanse is required.

LASH EXTENSION CARE

Avoid Contact with Water for 24-48 hours

The adhesive takes 24-48 hours to cure. Exposing the extensions to water (including steam, sweat, contact solution, makeup remover, etc.) before the initial 24-48 hours can cause the lash adhesive to shock cure, causing extensions to pop off of the natural eyelashes.

Avoid Mascara

Avoid applying mascara to lash extensions (unless the mascara is water-based and specifically made for extensions). Mascara dissolves bonding agents, closes fans, can pull extensions out, lead to lash damage, cause build-up and may be hard to remove completely. Build-up on lashes can cause bad retention, infections, and damage.

Do NOT Rub or Pull. Avoid Sleeping on the Face.

Picking at your extensions can cause damage to the eyelashes. Friction from pillow cases can cause the lashes to pull and fall out quickly. Sleeping on the back is the best way to get the maximum retention from lash extensions. Silky pillow cases are recommended and are available for purchase.

Use Oil-Free Products Only

Some oils can cause lash extension adhesive to break down and weaken. Avoiding oil-based products is crucial for good retention. Oil-based products also include mascara and eyeliners, even if they are just being applied to the bottom lashes. Avoid waterproof mascara, eyeliner, and makeup remover completely.

Cleanse Lashes Daily

Although it may be hard to believe, there is a purpose for eyelashes other than looking long and pretty. Eyelashes are there to protect the eye from dirt, dust, and debris. To prevent build-up and maximize retention, lash extensions must be cleaned daily. Brows by Sam Lash Bath is available for retail for just $12.
